Hubby discovered a great new app last week, that I am hoping will help to make we are always able to use up every last scrap of the veg we buy each week.
We got a weekly Veg Box from Riverford. Which is brilliant, and the quality is fab, and the veg is delicious.
But I find it really hard to meal plan when I am not 100% sure what I am going to be getting each week (it does give you a rough idea on the website, but it can change if they are short on certain things). And I will sometimes find myself with a glut of something like cabbage, that the kids aren’t that keen on.
Riverford have obviously cottoned on to this as a common problem, and have come up with this fab FREE app that works like a fruit machine.
You scroll through the veg pics on each ‘wheel’ of the fruit machine with what you have left in the fridge, and it will cunningly come up with delicious recipes!
I tried it.
We had spinach and mushrooms left at the end of the week.
I span the wheel, and it came up with 4 options, one of which we had all the other necessary ingredients for, and sounded pretty yummy-Spinach and Mushroom Lasagne.

Admittedly, this doesn’t look that attractive, but that’s because I inevitably forgot to take a pic of it when it was nice and hot, and this is the leftover bit for hubby to take to work for lunch!
It was a hit! Even the Smalls ate it (I had my doubts that they would eat the spinach. Or the mushrooms. But they did)
I know not everyone has i-phones, but for those of you who do, I wanted to share it with you, as I think it’s pretty cool, and actually really useful!
For those of you who can’t access it, you can always check out the Love Food Hate Waste site, where you can enter ingredients and it will come up with recipes (just minus the cool spinning wheel fruit machine!)
Have you tried the Abel and Cole site? They have loads of recipes for all kinds of veg, I find quite a lot of inspiring ideas there. http://www.abelandcole.co.uk/recipes
Will have a look-thanks Lesley 🙂
This looks brilliant, I recently stopped our veg box because I felt like each night was an episode of Ready Steady Cook! I will give this a try.
It’s great-let me know how you get on!
Just downloaded it and found some lovely recipes already! Don’t get a veg box but often get fed up of the same old same old recipes, be good to try something new. Thanks for letting us know about it!
No problem Hilary 🙂
Ooh, will need to download this and give it a go!
Let me know how you get on with it!
