Baby, Baby, Baby…#3

The last in my trio of new baby presents. (The others are here and here)

And this one is for another gorgeous little girl. (Just in case you were worried I was losing the plot and making presents to send the new Royal Baby…)

This is what you need:

  • Picture frame-a box frame would be ideal, but if you are being frugal, then this is a great opportunity to use a frame where the glass has broken

Broken glass in a frame, in case you were having difficulty visualising it…

  • Paint for the frame, in the colour of your choice
  • Paintbrush
  • Backing fabric
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Template of initial letter of baby’s name
  • Buttons-I chose pinkish colours. As I have said before, I would hate to rock the boat and go against any kind of gender stereotyping
  • Some cardboard for backing the fabric
  • Glue gun and sticks

This is what you do:

  • Paint your frame (as per this post here)
  • Iron your backing fabric if needed, and then use the backing board from your picture frame to draw, and then cut around to get a piece of fabric the right size

  • If you are more artistically inclined than me, you could draw the letter freehand onto your backing fabric, either in disappearing fabric pen, or very lightly in pencil. I printed out a letter and then cut around it to make a template

  • Plug your glue gun in to heat up while you root through your buttons and arrange them pleasingly

i4

  • Glue them on.
WARNING! Even though you know the glue is hot, it STILL hurts your fingers when you mange to glue straight on to them. Do this while the kids are in bed if you don’t want them to hear you swear
  • I then used a few dabs of glue to stick the fabric to a sheet of cardboard, as the buttons make the whole thing quite heavy and I was worried the fabric would start to ‘slump’
  • Reassemble, inside the frame
  • Spend the time after it has been posted worrying about whether or not the glue will hold, and whether you should send a picture too, in case they get a jiffy bag full of an empty frame and a pile of buttons….

  1. That is brilliant! I have a whole box of buttons that I’ve been saving to make something just wasn’t sure what, now I know what I’m going to do thanks. This would look great in my daughters new room 🙂
