Last week, I alluded to the fact that my children have a far more exciting social life than me, and that we had not one, but two birthday parties coming up..
This is what I made for the first one-where the birthday party was for a little boy, who was turning the ripe old age of 4.
And this weekend, it was the turn of a little girl called Lily, who will also be 4.
Once again I had turned to the kind and wise people in social media land, and as usual was rewarded with some great suggestions.
In the end, I went with a suggestion from the very lovely Louise, of Dress a Girl Around the World fame, to make a hair grip tidy, and I followed this most excellent tutorial on her gorgeous blog Sew Scrumptious!
And to kill two birds with one stone, I thought I would make this my #PinaddictsChallenge entry for March too!
So, this is what I was aiming for:
And this is what I made…
I followed the tutorial (which is very easy to follow, thanks Lou!) pretty much as it was except:
- I sewed the birthday girl’s name on the front
- I didn’t have any pretty ribbon long enough, so I made some bias binding from the same material as the appliqued letters (I do how-to on bias binding and letter sewing on here)
- I (hubby) put a popper on the end so the Lily can put her hairbands on the loop at the end
I’m really chuffed with it!
I proudly showed hubby and his initial response was “what is it?” (good job we have boys I think…) and then when I told him he said “oh, it’s really cool. You will have to explain to them what it is though..”
Thankyou darling!
It’s gorgeous and I bet Lily loves it. Just read your tute on bias binding and think I will have to try it. Well done!
Thankyou! Hope the tutorial makes sense-let me know!
Girls are easier aren’t they? I think she’ll love it, especially with her name on it.
My children have a better social life than me too. The youngest seems to have a party most weekends…(it feels like that anyway!)
I think it will only get worse once they start school!
Amazing post!!
Sent from my iPad
Thankyou so much, you are very kind 🙂
I LOVE your version with the name on. Thats fab! Thanks so much for the lovely mention. Gorgeous pressie. x
Thanks for such a fab tutorial and providing the inspiration in the first place 🙂
What another great idea, and I’m sure both Lily and her Mum will like the pressie!
I hope so! Thankyou 🙂
We both love it! The young lady can choose her clips and bands from it where they are beautifully displayed and they are all in one place rather than scattered all over the house! And I did know what it was, Jen you are very clever, a truly wonderful present x
Thanks Barley. So glad you both like it 🙂
❤ it ! Have to keep this post for my 6 month old Granddaughter for when she has hair grips … even spelt her name the same !
Fab!
Perfect present. I always make pencil cases with the child name stamped on and bags for the girls
Fab ideas-thankyou!
Aaaah it looks amazing Jen!! I need 3 of these in my house. *ahem, cough cough* 🙂 xx
If you come and take my Smalls for the afternoon, it’s a deal..!
So going to nick this idea, I have two girls sharing a room and they are constantly fighting about hair accoutrements
Great! Let me know how you get on
You may or may not be pleased to hear that I have been inspired by this, and I have forgone easter eggs, proceeding to make x4 personalised hair grip tidys for my nieces. I’m now going to make Sew Scrumptious’s pencil rolls for the boys in the family and a few banners for the tiny ones. All with scraps of materials that I have laying around…very economic but most importantly, made with love! Thanks for the ideas, and have a fabulous Easter break xxx
That’s fantastic! Isn’t the Sew Scrumptious blog fab?! Have a great Easter too 🙂
