As you all know, today is Mother’s Day (if you didn’t know and have forgotten, then you may well be in a teensy bit of trouble, I would suggest whipping up a quick pressie like this to compensate..!) and this year we had a very lovely Make Do and Mend version.
Like many women my age, I am ‘stuck in the middle’-meaning I am a mum, and so deserve to be spoilt rotten by my Small people (!) but am still lucky enough to have both my own darling mum around, and my lovely mother in law.
So we had a lovely family lunch together!
I chucked some chicken in the slow cooker at breakfast time, and some potatoes in the oven a bit later on, and it all made for a fuss-free, yummy lunch.
I scratched my head a little bit as to what to get the ‘grown-up’ mummies. I contemplated some gorgeous British blooms, but the jury is still out on whether or not buying flowers counts as buying new. And then I saw this lovely idea of a basket of daffodil bulbs, from Eco Thrifty Living, but despite knowing for several weeks that Mother’s Day was approaching, I left it a little too late to get organised…
So I went with the good old edible gift, and made some shortbread. As usual, I had a packaging dilemma, but think I just about managed to pull it round with a cardboard punnet, some pretty fabric and ribbon!
And then hubby and I did a team effort knocking up a couple of homemade cards on Saturday night..!
And just in case you are wondering what I got for Mother’s Day….

My very own Make Do and Mend flowers! Courtesy of the Smalls (with a little bit of help from Daddy…)
Best of all, I got what all mother’s of young children crave-an unscheduled lie-in-both Smalls slept in until 8.15am! This is unheard of in our house, especially on a weekend. Obviously I was awake from 6.30 waiting for them to wake up….
I thought today was Mothers Day?? LOL X
DOH!!! Got confused with my posting schedule! Will amend 🙂
Snap – my daughter (14 months) woke up at 6:30am, but I gave her some milk in bed and she fell back asleep until nearly 10am! Best mother’s day gift ever! Beautiful flowers too! That daff is a work of art!
Thankyou! Isn’t sleep awesome..??!
Hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day. Love the flowers!
Thankyou!
Thanks for linking to my post! I like your shortbread packaging and those homemade cards look lovely!
Thankyou! Will try and remember your lovely daffodil baskets for next year, and be more organised 🙂
