Now the excitement of the tree is over, I will share with you some of our other Make Do and Mend decorations that we have made for this Christmas!

Knitted snowmen!

I can’t take any credit for these fabby knitted snowmen-my lovely mum made them!

Paper twists

Made from vintage book pages.

Homemade tinsel substitute

Made by sewing together circles of vintage Autocar magazine pages (hubby has a collection that he lets me plunder, and it seemed fitting that there was some reference to cars on our very personalised tree, as the boys are just a little bit keen on them!) and some circles of felted woolly jumper (felted unintentionally this time-it was a gorgeous jumper that my mum knitted for the boys, and I managed to shrink it-oops)

Mini Christmas trees!

Made from cardboard cones from the Scrapstore, that I think must have been spools of knitting machine wool or large thread spools in a former life! I covered two with wool and another two with some fancy trim (managed to pick up both from the Scrapstore too!), and just glue gunned at intervals to get it to stick. Then I glued some buttons onto the woollen ones to look like baubles-I really like these! And they are super quick and easy to make.

Paper hearts

Made from the same vintage paper as the twists. You can’t really tell from the picture but these are kind of woven, and then I sewed around the edge for a bit of extra decoration and sewed a few of them together.

Good old fashioned paper chains

Inspired by this great post from the wonderful Scrapiana, I made some paper chains from the vintage book pages, and even remembered the scissors that my mother in law gave BigSmall for his birthday that cut a bit wibbly!

Felted heart

I used some more of the inadvertently felted jumper to make this heart-I cut 2 heart shaped pieces, crocheted a quick line of stitches to hang it by, and then blanket stitched around the edge to sew it all together.

BigSmall’s angel

BigSmall made this at Stourhead National Trust property at one of their Christmas craft weekends-isn’t she great?!

And not forgetting the Peg Star on the top of the tree!
