With the roaring success of the crocheted cushion cover still ringing in my ears, I was keen to crack on and start my next crocheting project….
I saw this fab post by The Stitch Sharer for a hat, and it looked pretty good, so I thought I would give it a go!
This is what I was aiming for….
This is what I ended up with…
It is all my fault.
As I can’t buy any new wool, I am, again, using up ‘odds and sods’ that I have been donated or found in charity shops, and I have to confess that the colour scheme is awful not really very well thought out.
And I deviated from the original pattern…
I did the required 16 rounds as per the pattern, but it didn’t really fit on my head very well. Maybe I am just not chic enough to wear these jaunty angled hats-I need something that comes down over my ears and won’t budge. So I kept on going and did at least another 10 rounds…
By this point I had decided I didn’t like the colours I had done but was loathe to unravel the whole thing, so I thought that adding a pretty pattern to the edge might make it all better…
It didn’t.
Gutted.
BUT….
It does make a good basket..!
My sincere apologies to the lovely Stitch Sharer. I will try again when I have a proper amount of wool in a decent colour…

I keep meaning to share this with you, it’s a cracking upcycle, one for beginners and it’s a well received gift as I’ve handed it out a few times now.
Nice basket!

That’s lovely. Will it not catch on fire..??
The tea light is inside a jam jar, tiny flame well away from the frilly top bit
Aha! Sounds great! Will give this a go
Well done try trying! The hat comes up pretty flexible, any chance you can pull it into shape?
Meant to add that the hat is designed to just reach your ears. Feel free to adapt and rewrite to get the style you are after. X
Thankyou so much for the pattern. I feel so bad that I have massacred it. I will try again when I have some more supplies!
It is sooooooooo disappointing when what ever your making does not turn out as we expect ! The brighter side is you didn’t waste bought wool. Looking forward to the next super dooper stylish hat in the future!
Thanks Jano
You know I think your hat has a quaint kind of charm to it. Maybe if someone kindly donates a load of wool the same colour, you could try it again. I certainly haven’t plucked up the courage to try something as adventurous as a hat yet eek!
The Smalls have been running around wearing it, and they look very sweet!
Keep trying honey, be gentle on yourself (after all youve not been crocheting for long). I think you are doing really well, you could always unravel it and try again.
)
Thanks Jo. It genuinely does make a pretty good basket, and the Smalls seems to quite like wearing it too (!) so I definitely wouldn’t want to unravel it!
Dont worry we have all made some pretty terrible things!!! At least it makes a cool basket!!!
Thanks Janette!
